Taken from a departing Shuttle II, NAXA's pride and joy hangs motionless in space, ready to embark on her maiden voyage. She's the second Deep Space Exploration Vessel, a desgin improved over the Vigilance (DSEV-1). --- This is the Nautilus, the ship that gets lost in Contact Lost (TM). Life imitates art, because as I finished the ship and set the lighting, I discovered 3DS MAX's directional lighting. Directional lighting makes all light from the source travel in a parallel direction. Since the sun's rays are effectively parallel with respect to Earth, directional light is perfect for a space scene (among others). I lit the underside with a softer light and then moved the camera around to create this dramatic shot. I really like the results! I'm one step closer to making my space art look like something Zoic Studios did for the Battlestar Galactica remake.
